Project Name: Livelihood & Economic Empowerment Programme Target Area: 9 Districts Target Group: Dalit Women

Aims & Objectives

  • To promote regular savings habits to meet essential consumption needs such as children’s education, healthcare, and household emergencies.
  • To provide livelihood opportunities through a sub-sectoral approach that identifies and strengthens locally viable income-generating activities.

Goal

Economic empowerment and self-sustenance for Dalit women and their households.

Key Activities

  • Capacity building through training in marketable skills, financial management, and entrepreneurship.
  • Promotion of women-led cooperatives and self-help groups.
  • Direct livelihood enhancement support, including access to resources, market linkages, and micro-enterprise development.

Devadasi, Jogini women across the 9 districts of two States.

Outcome

10,000  Devadasi, Jogini actively manage their economic stability, contribute to household decision-making, and participate meaningfully in the larger process of economic empowerment. Through consistent savings, skill application, and collective enterprise, these women have achieved greater financial security and reduced dependency.

Jogini Vyavastha

Aashray is deeply committed to eradicating the exploitative Jogini system—a traditional practice that dedicates young girls, primarily from Dalit communities, to temple service, often leading to lifelong marginalization and vulnerability.
