Dalit Empowerment

Aashray – (JVVPS) is dedicated to the holistic empowerment of Dalit communities, particularly women and vulnerable groups such as Basvis, Joginis, and Mathammas, who face deep-rooted discrimination and exclusion. Through community mobilization, rights awareness, and collective action, our struggles enable these marginalized sections to assert their identity, access to entitlements, and integrate fully into mainstream society with dignity and self-respect.

Aims & Objectives

  • To empower the marginalized communities and bring them into the mainstream through rights-based interventions and capacity building.

Goal

To ensure that all underprivileged marginalized communities are actively involved in the mainstream empowerment process, enabling self-assertion, leadership, and social equality.

Key Activities

  • Formation of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) led by Dalit women and vulnerable groups.
  • Streamlining and strengthening these CBOs through training, leadership development, and networking for sustained advocacy and collective action.

Outcome

(Including 10,000 Devadasis, Joginis) 30,000 Dalit women have been successfully brought into the self-assertion and empowerment process, gaining confidence to challenge discrimination, access to entitlements, And lead community initiatives for lasting change.

Aashray -(JVVPS) continues to strengthen Dalit empowerment by expanding CBO networks, providing legal aid, promoting education for children of marginalized women, and fostering alliances for broader social justice.

Jogini Vyavastha

Aashray is deeply committed to eradicating the exploitative Jogini system—a traditional practice that dedicates young girls, primarily from Dalit communities, to temple service, often leading to lifelong marginalization and vulnerability. 

Livelihood

Aashray livelihood initiatives are designed to foster economic independence and dignity among marginalized communities, with a special focus on women from Dalit backgrounds.
