Aashray – (JVVPS) is deeply committed to eradicating the exploitative Jogini system—a traditional practice that dedicates young girls, primarily from Dalit communities, to temple service, often leading to lifelong marginalization and vulnerability. Through dedicated advocacy, rehabilitation, and community empowerment, And Struggles we put on end to new dedications, And rehabilitate the survivors affected women (known as Devadasis, Joginis, Mathammas, Basvis), and integrate them into mainstream society with dignity and self respect.

Jogini Vyavastha Vyathireka Porata Sanghatana is a community based organization with the survivors of devadasi system to eradicate the devadasi system in India.
Aims & Objectives
- To prevent the further dedication of young girls into the Jogini system.
- To bring Joginis, Mathammas, and Basvis into the mainstream, enabling their full participation in social, economic, and Dalit women’s empowerment processes.
Goal
To ensure that all Dalit women and their children are treated with respect and lead decent, dignified lives free from stigma and exploitation.
Key Activities
- Promotion and strengthening of community-based organizations led by Joginis, Basvis, and Mathammas to build collective voice and self-advocacy.
- Awareness campaigns, legal support, and counseling to stop dedications and address violations.
- Rehabilitation through skill training, livelihood support, education for children, and social integration initiatives.
Stakeholders
Approximately 10,000 affected women and their families across the target districts.
Outcome
Thousands of vulnerable women have been mainstreamed into society, gaining access to rights, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Community organizations have successfully reduced new dedications, challenged stigma, and empowered former Joginis to lead dignified lives while advocating for broader social change.
Aashray – (JVVPS) continue this vital work by expanding community networks, providing holistic rehabilitation, and collaborating with local authorities to enforce protective laws.
